What are the odds?
I spent the last 5 years studying them. Obsessed with odds. Obsessed with the tail of the parabola. Obsessed with understanding how all of it could be possible when the odds say NO WAY. Impossible. But yet…possible.
I will spare you the research and just give you the headline, after years of such plotting, looking for such patterns, I stopped and you can too.
The data only reinforces the obvious, anything can happen.
And my studies in quantum Physics proves that to be the case. All possibilities exist. Everything is just a string and it can bend at any point to create endless waves, even ones we can’t fathom.
But to say that the odds are against us, is a stupid thing to say. Because you are remarkably odd. Out of 100,000 million million million million million million million million DNA combinations (yes that math is correct), here you are. How rare you are!
So ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE as you are possible.
And “anything” very much includes pandemics, getting struck by lightning, 2 rare cancers, and more. But I have also found this also very much includes oil lasting for 7 days, meeting your soulmate, and winning the lottery. Anything is a two way street. The edges of the randomness of life's house misfortune, but also miracles.
In the face of such odds, it's easy to feel insignificant or overwhelmed by the scale of possibilities. Yet, this same vastness is what underscores the beauty and potential in the unpredictability of life. The same quantum mechanics that teach us about the improbable nature of existence also remind us of the incredible chance that leads to each moment, each connection, and each opportunity. And how its rarity just reinforces how serendipitous life is. There are no “coincidences.”
This realization has profound implications for how we view the world and our place in it. When you grasp the sheer scale of possibility—that every moment is a product of near-impossible odds—it invites a shift in perspective.
In this understanding lies a powerful freedom. Knowing that you are a miraculous product of countless "improbable" events should embolden you to take risks, to love deeply, to dream wildly, and to face challenges with unwavering courage. The universe is not against you; it has, in fact, equipped you against all odds these experiences. Your existence is a beacon of what's possible, a reminder that within the randomness and chaos of life, there is also an order, a purpose, and a possibility that transcends the odds.
Live boldly, knowing that the improbable is not just possible but inevitable. You are the proof.
Synchronicity is among my favorite experiences. Bashert! Love this post, Abby. And when it comes to statistics, my favorite thing is always remembering, nothing is unbelievable, everything has a bell curve.
