What about us?!

Updated: Apr 3, 2024

Today I sat down to write out the narrative pitch for MTG. Write out a persuasive narrative.

MTG is ready to bring on new investors.

I know I’m supposed to be “polished.” There is an actual formula to follow and we have followed it. The slides are ready. But the presentation also has a way to pitch. It’s googlable even. I have it right in front of me. There is a procedure required for this business group. And I don’t see any flair. No flair. Just numbers and words.

I’m feeling a bit…uninspired. Trying to fit in the WHY into prescribed…or even worse…EXPECTED way.

Just staring at this screen.

I really hate anything that has any aspect of EXPECT at this point. Why is expected THE WAY?

And I want the RIGHT investor. They need to SHOW up and maybe even dance. That may need to be a requirement…hmmm…that would narrow the field;)

All I can think about as I stare at this screen is that the real pitch, it’s not from me, I’m just representing them.

How do I communicate that? How do I communicate for others? I just bear witness.

All of the youth with broken promises. All the debt. All the anxiety. All of the unpreparedness and (ugh) expectations shattered for our youth. A world that is not what was promised.

And then it came on as I sat here.

On shuffle of course.

She summed it up perfectly. She gets it.

She’s the pitch.

Hey P!nk want to come to Cali with me? There are some investors that need to hear your song. Bring the dancers. Show that fury.

Because the youth are screaming…WHAT ABOUT US?!!

We have raised our youth with promises. We’ve told them the sky is the limit. We have promised them greatness, we have promised to know the answers. We are parents. And we did that by paving or snowplowing the way. That is what we are supposed to do. That is how the system currently works. But these promises don’t match reality as we find the first generation doing worse than their parents and entering a world that we not only can’t predict, we can’t understand. The world of our children will look much different than today. They need to be self sufficient and have skills like mindfulness. Calming your mind when you are on 24/7 with the digital world is now not a in vogue thing to do, but a real necessity for mental health.

Our kids need more.

We need to empower them. We need them to BE READY.

And they are now are angry. Rightfully so.

They SHOUT…

WHAT ABOUT US?!

What about all the times you said you had the answers?

And they are SCREAMING…What about us?

What about all the broken happy ever afters?

What about us?

What about all the plans that ended in disaster?

What about love?

What about trust?

What about us?

We are problems that want to be solved

We are children that need to be loved

We were willin’, we came when you called

Yes they jumped through all of our hoops, but they are now calling us out.

But then I’ll be ready, are you ready?

It’s the start of us, waking up, come on

Are you ready? I’ll be ready

I don’t want control, I want to let go

Are you ready? I’ll be ready

‘Cause now it’s time to let them know

We are ready, what about us?

What about us?

What about us?

What about us?

I’m highly considering this my pitch. Hey…let the crazy flag fly right?!

But seriously how can I say it better?

It’s the end of promises. It’s the end of parents pretending we know all the answers. Let them be READY for REAL life.

Let them have TRUST in themselves.

LET THEM BE READY
