Nightwing Update 2024

abby9077

Dear Nightwing,

You deserve to share in all the light, as you guided me and my family through every moment of darkness. I pen this letter not just to thank you, but to remind you of the miracles you helped create. To remind you of your power. It was your prayers, your support, and your unwavering belief that saved Jacob. I believe that with all my heart. It was our community, coming together for a child fighting a seemingly impossible battle, that gave us the strength to pull him through.

And for that, I thank you.

Today, Jacob is not only cancer-free, but thriving—playing tackle football. Yes, tackle football! I know it may sound strange to some—that after all we did to protect his health, we’d let him play such a physically demanding sport. But one thing I’ve learned is that there is zero stopping Jacob.

After years in hospitals, missing out on all the sports other kids take for granted, he walked onto that football field with no experience, no skills—just an unshakeable dream to be part of a team. And as it turns out, that dream was enough. Jacob poured every ounce of himself into it—arriving an hour early to every practice, determined to make up for lost time.

Now, not only is he a part of the team, but he’s their captain. He’s earned his spot in the starting lineup, and every time I see him out there, I am reminded of the strength he carried through his illness—and the strength our community gave him to survive.

This victory is yours too.

It’s a testament to all of you who stood by us when we felt like crumbling, to those who "flicked," prayed, lit candles, and sent us messages of hope. I want you to know that your love still ripples through our lives, every day. I see it in the way Jacob takes on life—with fearlessness, with passion, with the belief that no challenge is too great.

There is a joy in watching him push his limits, and an even greater joy in knowing that his story is far from over. It’s just the beginning of what happens when a community comes together and makes a miracle possible. And I see so many of your struggling with the weight of the world, that feels so hopeless.

But its not...we can do this again as long as we come together. And here is your reminder.

With love and gratitude,

Abby
