Independence

abby9077

I don’t know about you, but I am craving color. I’m sick of the palette that has been presented to me (and this is coming from a New Yorker with a closet of all black).

But these days I'm wearing more color. I guess that happens when you declare your independence. When you no longer accept the idea that has been fed to all of us—that our choices in life are black or white. Especially when we know that life is actually lived in all shades.

However, this colorful decision is not a fun one. I find no joy in its announcement. It involves leaving a party, and you know I love a good party.

But at some point, you need to put the nation first. At some point, you have to say ENOUGH.

I declared my independence from the Democratic Party. And the announcement came with great hate, especially with a female on the ticker (something we all have fought so hard for). I’ve been accused of everything from supporting the end of democracy to, of course, a genocide (oh, the crazy hate for Jews in the Democratic Party).

But I’m super proud of this decision.

The decision to be INDEPENDENT. The decision to vote for RFK who caters to no far right nor far left. I'm done with the hate. I pick unity.

So...I’m not “throwing my vote away.”

Nope.

I’m casting it.

I’m throwing it to the future. I’m betting on change and saying with my vote that there is nothing democratic about our current system that only fosters bipartisanship. It pits “us” versus “them" and we are just pawns in this political game that has not one our nation's interests. Two parties = A divided nation. A divided house...we know where this goes.

But don’t get me wrong. Becoming an “independent” is scary, but heck, RFK had more to lose than me, and he did just that. He put nation first, politics last and walked away from a legacy. That is honorable.

So I'm now a proud INDEPENDENT.

INDEPENDENT thinker who is INDEPENDENT of any party, living as an INDEPENDENT woman! You know what? You can be too:) You have choice too. Your not throwing anything away. You are representing America.

Ditch the black dress, let's pick some color this season!
