On the way to the hospital Jacob had a request.
He requested two songs. Party in the USA and Fight Song.
Fight Song felt especially fitting.
I write down the lyrics to remind me of what Jacob requested to hear. The ones in bold felt especially appropriate.
Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
He went into surgery laughing. He wasn’t scared. He had a few questions.
Where will I have a new “scratch?” (he calls his scar from biopsy a scratch). Yes. Just like daddy. Superhero battle wounds.
Will there be Imaginext when I wake up? A lot of them right? But of course.
When do I get “drunk?” (pre meds)
Once drunk he was giggly. He held on to his bear as we went for a ride. And seemed surprised when he saw me next him. “How did you sneak in here?!” And I held him as he fell to sleep. It was a big room. I counted 10 people, but there were more on the other side.
A lot of incredible doctors and nurses that will for the next hours have another child, mine. A new village..
