I love ants.

The infatuation actually began with termites on that same trip in South Africa I mentioned once earlier. Have you seen a termite hill in Africa?

Termites amazed me. I know we were looking at elephants, and even lions, but this took my breath away. How is that possible? How can such small creatures build cathedral-like dwellings?

And they are as hard as rocks. You can climb them. Stand on them. They are taller than you! They are made with only sand dirt, etc, but they create their own mortar. Their own saliva is their secret ingredient.

And these hills are just the beginning, the real society, civilization, is underground and they run for miles. WHAT?! CRAZY!

So when I’m sad, I watch my ant porn. This is my obsession.

So why am I obsessed with ants?

I’m not just amazed by their architecture plans. I like how they work. They work as a team. They work as one. They work on their instinct and they only work for a greater good.

If you haven’t gotten yourself an anthill. Go and get one. NOW. Watch it. Show your kids it. They will dazzle you with their intellect. They will create tunnels at crazy speeds, they will create highways, homes, food storage, and even a cemetery. Yes, the ants bury their dead.

Be sure to point out how they can only accomplish this by working together. Alone they are an “ant.” Stoppable by just your finger. You crush them just by walking on grass. But together…HOLY SMOKES.

Together they are BIG. They can build things bigger than not just your finger, but your whole body. They make modern human architects look uninspired and lazy!
